George Mackaronis

George Mackaronis Rock Climbing Instructor

Assistant Guide

George serves as an assistant guide for Blue Ridge Mountain Guides. He is from Mclean, Virginia where he grew up exploring Great Falls Park and Catoctin Mountain Park with his family. He has been climbing for over 10 years and teaching in outdoor education for 5 years.

George’s favorite rock discipline is trad, but he has recently discovered the wonders of ice climbing. Rock climbing has played an integral role in George’s life, and he wants to use guiding as a platform for sharing the wonders of climbing with others and creating memorable experiences for clients. As an elementary school teacher, George is eager to bring his experience in the classroom out to the crag.

George graduated from Denison University with a B.A. in Psychology. He is currently in his 4th year at Free Union Country School, where he teaches Physical and Environmental Education. Recently, George started his own youth backpacking company, Greenstone Adventures, which takes middle and high school students on multi-day backpacking trips. George has held a Wilderness First Responder Certification for 6 years, and has completed his AMGA Single Pitch Instructor Course.
