What To Bring

Personal Gear

  • Climbing instructionApproach shoes for walking to the climbing area. Closed toe and heel. No adventure sandals.
  • A small backpack/daypack to carry gear to the climbing area and to climb with for multi-pitch routes. We have some if you need one.
  • Clothing that is non-restrictive and appropriate to the season. We recommend non-cotton fabrics and work-out type clothing. Dress in layers to be ready for any weather situation. Shorts/pants and a short-sleeved shirt with a light jacket/rain shell are best. Trips go out rain or shine unless lightning is present. In the colder months, a hat and gloves are a must!
  • Water 1-2 quarts
  • Lunch and snacks
  • Sunglasses
  • Sunscreen
  • Camera
  • Medication that is prescribed to you such as an asthma inhalers, insulin, seizure or heart/blood pressure medication, Epi-Pen or similar. You may not be able to participate if you don’t have these medications present.

Blue Ridge Mountain Guides has all of the technical climbing equipment necessary for you to complete our courses or private guiding days. We encourage you to bring any personal gear you have also. Personal gear will be inspected prior to use; you may be asked to use our equipment if our guides deem yours unsafe.

  • Transportation to and from the climbing area. You will need to follow your guide in your personal vehicle.
