Seneca Rocks, WV is simply a gem,  it is the tallest 5th class summit on the East Coast. The mountain is known for its multi-pitch routes of all difficulties and technical terrain, which often gives you the feel of an alpine environment. This is a great destination to hone your multi-pitch trad skills, experience climbing for the first time, or bag your first technical summit. After a day on the rocks, most climbers retreat to the porch of the Gendarme Gear Shop for beverages and the legendary Seneca Pizza; the climbing community at Seneca Rocks is unique to any!

“Seneca Rocks West Face”

Seneca Shadows Campground has walk-in tent sites, group sites and RV camping with a view of the rock face. Most sites have a picnic table, lantern post, and grill. There is a central covered shelter.  It is possible to walk to and from the Seneca Rocks Climbing School and Gendarme to the Campground. (304) 567-3082

Princess Snowbird Campground has first come field camping with two open air pavilions. There are fire rings and picnic tables scattered around. If you are looking for a climbing partner, this is the place to be. Metro area climbers are often hanging around during the weekends. (304) 567-2351

Seneca House is a hostel located just up the road from Seneca Rocks. A good option for cooler weather climbing trips. (304)567-2086

Yokum’s Motel is located in the center of downtown Seneca Rocks and is the most central to food, gear, the climbing school, and the Rocks. (304) 567-2351

Appalachian Cabins are located up the road from Seneca Rocks. Their cabins have the only hot tubs in the valley! (304) 567-7070

Where to Eat:

Harper’s Front Porch is the home of the area’s famous pizza! The Front Porch is located upstairs from the general store. They do not serve alcohol, but you can purchase downstairs and BYOB.

Maxville Mart is a gas station and convenience store located just past the entrance to Seneca Shadows Campground. They offer snacks, light groceries, and breakfast sandwiches.

Hellbender Burritos is located about 45 minutes away from Seneca in Canaan Valley in Davis, WV. They have massive burritos that are well worth the drive!
