Stone Mountain, NC - Stone Mountain is home to what many feel is the most aesthetic rock climb in the Carolinas: “The Great Arch 5.5”. The rock has a southern aspect and acts as a reflector oven, which makes it the premier cold weather destination in the Piedmont of NC. Routes generally consist of 100+ feet of climbing per pitch, up slabs and cracks. The low angle nature of the terrain is great for beginner and experienced climbers alike, and is ideal for practicing footwork and balance.
This mountain has been the first multi-pitch climbing experience for many! For experienced climbers, hiring a climbing guide at Stone Mountain can make your first trip much more enjoyable. Stone Mountain was first ascended from the ground up. This means that many routes have run-outs that are 30’ or more. Having a guide who can lead until you get familiar with the rock makes for a more gradual introduction.
